Kumbh Mela 2025: Devastating Fire in Prayagraj Sector 19"

A fire occurred at Kumbh Mela today, the 19th of January, 2025 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The incident occurred in Sector 19 around 4:4 30 PM.Said to have begun from the camp of Gita Press. Around 180 cottages were burnt down in the fire incident, which was caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder whilst cooking which led to several cylinders exploding.

Twelve vehicles from the Fire Brigade arrived on the scene and the fire was extinguished in the one hour. Thankfully there were no deaths reported in the incident.

 Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath went on a visit to the ground and the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi was informed about the incident.

The festival which was flagged off on January 13 and will last about six weeks will see the Kumbh Mela attracting 400 million devotees. Once in 12 years, people bathe in the waters of the confluence of the three rivers, the Ganga, the Yamuna, and the iconic river, the Saraswati.

Since then, law enforcement officials are investigating procedures to avoid having a similar event again.
